Her smile, her beautiful curly blond hair, she was so beautiful. Thank you for this account of her life and her battle with cancer. And thank you for acknowledging the caregivers, as I was one as well. Today I said “check in with the girls.”

Needless to say, I am devastated to hear we lost Linda. Shocking.

Linda wins the prize for many of my memorable adventures: best dinner party at Thanksgiving, my trip to Bisbee with her when I was named “little sister” by Juliette’s daughter leaping in the air trying to wake me up while sleeping in the back of my camper shell, Linda’s face aglow when we stayed the month in Florence after taking a midnight ride on the back of an Italian guy’s Vespa, and so many more.

Traveling over the past 3 years in northern CA, I stopped in Whole Foods in Petaluma to surprise her and was told she worked in San Raphael. So the next time we went north, I stopped in Whole Foods there, my heart racing, hoping to see her. She wasn’t there.

Our paths did not cross lately, but memories stay in our heart for a lifetime and beyond. Linda lit up the world with her strength, intelligence, and beauty. I am so sorry for the family, but so grateful that Linda, a force of nature, was a part of my life.

Michelle, thanks for sharing her story. My love to you all, Karen Harris
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6002212249736084772.post-79335856206560758702017-04-15T23:19:10.738-07:002017-04-15T23:19:10.738-07:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06283828935967053987noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6002212249736084772.post-23979106221190532222017-04-15T23:19:08.408-07:002017-04-15T23:19:08.408-07:00An amazing narrative Michelle. Linda's footprint is voluminous.

KerryAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06283828935967053987noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6002212249736084772.post-33962184737187724572017-04-12T12:43:23.766-07:002017-04-12T12:43:23.766-07:00Thank you so much, Michelle. I was Linda's roo...Thank you so much, Michelle. I was Linda's roommate in college our freshman year. I learned so much from her then, and know that her strong, intelligent, wise perspectives shaped who I've become. Though I went to her wedding reception and visited her and Danny when the twins were infants, we didn't stay in contact much into our adult years.

She sought me out on Facebook and we were in intermittent contact for the last 8 or so years. She continued to share her humor, intelligence and wisdom with me, and we had some especially great exchanges in the last 8 months, though I didn't know much of what she was experiencing at the time. She continued to give even when she was working hard to maintain her own being.

I always admired her conviction to what she believed. And, yet, I can see that the very conviction I admired may be what took her so soon. As frustrating as that is and as much as I feel her loss, I respect that she was doing what she needed to do.

Even more, I admire and respect what you and Juliette (Jordan and Mark) did to lend support, and even take the rub from her when you spoke your concerns.

Again, thank you so much for writing the story. Linda was pretty "mum" when I reached out to ask about her, but I was so interested to know how she was doing a cancer journey. You have filled in the gaps and let me know more about her and your sisters relationship.

I found a breast lump 25 years ago when I was 35 and went immediately to see my doc (a certified midwife whose mother was in breast cancer treatment). My doc told me to get a mammogram, so I did. It did not show a tumor - pre-menopausal breast tissue was too dense to show on a mammogram at that time (1992). She perceived that the lump was "moving" (generally not associated with malignant tumors) so raised no red flags. In 1994, I had another mammogram because I felt 2 tumors. The mammogram still showed no tumors, but there were microcalcification clusters, so I had a biopsy.

Cancer was diagnosed. I, at age 37, has a mastectomy, then did chemo. Two years later, I found and reported another lump to 3 different certified MDs, who did not send me for a biopsy. I needed to advocate for one. That lump was cancerous, so I did radiation. That was 20 years ago.

In addition to an allopathic approach, I was (and continue to) doing complementary, immune-building, non-Western healthful activities.

I shared all this information with Linda when we got together for lunch 7 years ago. As much as I needed my journey to be mine, so did she need hers to be hers.

I have such fond memories of your family and a visit I made to you home during our freshman year. Thank you for letting me follow your story. I'll continue to turn in to the Salvation Sisters blog when I need a great recipe. It's a great legacy you've all made!

With love,
Dee Coyle WangerDeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00149517223236094975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6002212249736084772.post-25907990010341565902017-04-11T21:32:59.309-07:002017-04-11T21:32:59.309-07:00Linda is a Saint.
